Mast selection guide: M vs MX vs MTC, and which length

Profile

Length

LengthWhoWhy
74 cmFirst sessions, flat water, small wingsEasiest to recover from a touchdown; breaches easily in chop
84 cmLearning to progressingForgiving with enough margin for small chop
94 cmMost wingfoilersThe all-round length — chop, turns, first downwinders
104 cmAdvanced wing, kitefoil, downwindMore pitch margin, carves deeper without breaching
110–128 cmKite race, windsurf-foil freerideHolds through swell and upwind angles
146 cmWindsurf-foil raceMaximum height for race lines

Available lengths: M 74 · 84 · 94 · 104 · 114 · 128 · 146 — MX 85 · 95 · 100 · 110 · 125 — MTC 80 · 90 · 100 · 110 · 120.

Length by discipline

  • Wingfoil: 84 → 94 → 104 as you progress. Gorge chop favours 94+.
  • Windsurf-foil: 94–114 freeride; 128–146 race with FU1000.
  • Kitefoil: 94–110 freeride; longer for race.
  • Downwind / parawing: 94–110, paired with L-family wings.

Common mistakes

  • Too short to feel safe. 74 cm is a learning tool, not a destination. Most riders outgrow it in weeks.
  • Too long too soon. A 110 cm mast magnifies every pitch error. Earn it.
  • Matching profile to wing badly. Big A wings on an MX are fine; the MX was built for lower-drag wings, so you give up some of what you paid for.

Then the fuselage

The mast bolts to the fuselage, which decides the connection your wings need. Next: the fuselage selection guide.

Questions

What foil mast length should I choose?

Learning: 74–84 cm. Progressing wingfoil in chop: 84–94 cm. Advanced wingfoil, downwind and kite: 94–114 cm. Windsurf-foil race: 114–146 cm. Longer masts handle chop and give pitch margin; shorter masts are easier to recover on touchdowns.

What is the difference between REVSTAR-M and REVSTAR-MX masts?

M is the standard thicker tapered profile — stable, trusted, supports the largest wings. MX is a thinner wetted profile for lower drag and a cleaner, faster feel. Both use the same fuselage interface.

What is an MTC mast?

MTC is OXZA's Twin-Connect mast. The board-side head accepts either a pedestal or a tuttle box, so one mast works across boards with different mounts.
