Inflatable wing with manifold
The one-pump system. The leading edge doubles as a manifold, so every strut inflates from a single valve. Before it, riders pumped each strut separately on a beach in the wind. It is now standard on essentially every inflatable kite made.

Wing with inflatable struts
The split strut. The canopy is secured to each rib strut at two points around its circumference instead of being sewn over the top of it, so the strut sits in the span of the canopy rather than under it. The canopy holds its shape under load, and the deformable member bleeds power in a gust instead of taking the rider with it.
